About this tour

Embark on a spiritually uplifting sisters-only retreat through the breathtaking land of Bosnia and Herzegovina, guided by Ustadha Tayyibah Ahmad. This unique six-night, seven-day journey is designed to nourish both the heart and soul, offering a space for reflection, connection, and knowledge while exploring a land rich with Islamic heritage, natural beauty, and a remarkable story of faith and resilience. From the historic streets of Sarajevo and Mostar to the mountain valleys, river springs, and Ottoman towns of central Bosnia, you will walk through a country where the legacy of Islam has been preserved through centuries of devotion, scholarship, and sacrifice.
Highlights include visits to historic Ottoman mosques and centres of learning, sacred sites tied to great figures of Islamic history, and moving memorials that bear witness to the strength and faith of the Bosnian Muslim community. Alongside this, you’ll experience some of Europe’s most stunning natural beauty — towering mountains, emerald lakes, dramatic river canyons, powerful waterfalls, and crystal-clear springs — each a reminder of the magnificence of God’s creation.

Alongside daily classes and reflections led by Ustadha Tayyiba, the journey weaves together the spiritual, educational, and cultural — traditional Bosnian cuisine, time among nature, and space for shopping, rest, and sisterhood. Accommodation is in comfortable spa hotels with access to facilities such as sauna and swimming pool, allowing you to unwind and recharge each evening after the day’s experiences. With faith, learning, and comfort at the heart of the experience, this retreat offers a rare opportunity to grow spiritually in the company of like-minded sisters in one of the most spiritually rich and naturally beautiful corners of Europe.

After lunch, the journey continues through the dramatic Neretva Canyon before arriving in Mostar to explore the famous Stari Most, the Old Bazaar, Koski Mehmed Pasha Masjid, and Karadjoz Bey Masjid, followed by dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, the day begins with a visit to the stunning Kravica Waterfall, a wide horseshoe-shaped cascade surrounded by woodland and emerald pools. The journey then continues to Pocitelj, a beautifully preserved Ottoman hillside village with its citadel, mosque, madrasa, and stone streets overlooking the Neretva River. After lunch, the group will visit the spiritual Blagaj Tekke, a historic Sufi lodge built beneath a towering cliff beside the source of the Buna River, followed by time at the Buna River Spring, one of Europe’s most powerful karst springs, before returning to Sarajevo for dinner and overnight stay.

The day begins with a visit to the Tunnel of Hope, a deeply moving site from the siege of Sarajevo, where visitors can reflect on the courage and resilience of the Bosnian people. The group will then visit Vrelo Bosne, the peaceful spring of the Bosna River, surrounded by streams, bridges, trees, and natural beauty at the foot of Mount Igman. After lunch, the journey continues towards Bjelasnica Olympic Mountain, known for its fresh mountain air, panoramic views, and connection to the 1984 Winter Olympics. The day also includes time around Ilidza Park, with its leafy walkways and spa-town atmosphere, before a free evening in Sarajevo.

After breakfast, the group will travel to Travnik, the former Ottoman capital of Bosnia and once the seat of the Bosnian viziers. The visit includes the historic old town, the colourful Sulejmanija Masjid, also known as the Ornamented Masjid, and the prayer site associated with Sultan Muhammad al-Fatih. The group will then visit Plava Voda, the beautiful Blue Water Spring, before lunch and onward travel towards Jajce. In the afternoon, the itinerary includes Pliva Lake, an optional boat ride, the Ottoman-era Mlincici Watermills, and the dramatic Jajce Waterfall, where the Pliva River falls into the Vrbas River in the heart of the town.

The day begins with a visit to Sunnyland on the foothills of Mount Trebevic, offering panoramic views over Sarajevo. The group will then explore Bascarsija, the old Ottoman bazaar and cultural heart of the city, with its cobbled lanes, traditional workshops, cafes, and the famous Sebilj fountain. The visit continues to Kovaci, the Graves of the Martyrs, followed by the historic Clocktower and the magnificent Gazi Husrev Bey Masjid and maqam. After lunch, the group will visit the Latin Bridge and the Emperor’s Masjid, one of Sarajevo’s oldest and most graceful mosques, with the option of taking the Trebevic Mountain Cable Car for sweeping views over the city.

After breakfast, the group will travel to Srebrenica for a solemn and reflective day dedicated to remembrance. The visit includes the Srebrenica Memorial Centre, located at the former UN base, where the memory of the more than 8,000 victims of the Srebrenica genocide is preserved. The group will also visit Potocari Cemetery, the resting place of the shuhada of Srebrenica, followed by the Srebrenica Genocide Museum, housed in the former battery factory used by the UN Dutch battalion. After lunch, the journey back to Sarajevo includes a stop in the town of Olovo, known for its peaceful natural setting, thermal springs, river scenery, and old wooden mosque, before returning for a free evening.

The final day begins with breakfast and hotel check-out at 12pm, with luggage stored securely so the afternoon can be enjoyed freely. The group will have time to explore at their own pace, whether through a final walk in Sarajevo’s old town for shopping and souvenirs or a peaceful afternoon around the parks and natural spaces of Ilidza. In the evening, the group will transfer to Sarajevo International Airport for the return flight, closing the journey with memories of sisterhood, reflection, Islamic heritage, natural beauty, and spiritual renewal.
